Achieving global climate ambition with clean energy
The Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) – a coalition of companies and associations from the energy efficiency, natural gas and renewable energy sectors – joins the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP 26) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) hosted by the United Kingdom in Glasgow, Scotland to bring existing technology and policy solutions to the table as we embark upon this critical decade for climate action.
At COP 26, we call for countries to raise ambition and to partner with the private sector to translate that ambition into:
- Broader deployment of clean energy & energy efficiency technologies around the world.
- Better investments in our economies, infrastructure and communities to reduce emissions, create new jobs and strengthen resilience

More Bang for the Buck – Investing in Mitigation & Resilience Together
November 1, 2021
Many existing clean energy and energy efficiency solutions can deliver both mitigation and enhanced resilience against the impacts of climate change. Now is the time to re-invest strategically in technology solutions and systems that achieve both goals, as the impacts of a lack of climate action are already being felt with increasing incidences of wildfires, droughts, hurricanes and floods. Investing in communities and climate-smart infrastructure before a disaster delivers a significant return on investment. These types of solutions include on-site clean energy generation, microgrids, weatherization and other building efficiency measures and more.
This panel will make the case to invest in clean energy and energy efficiency and sustainability solutions that both enhance resilience and advance the transition towards the creation of net-zero economies.

“On behalf of the whole team at Johnson Controls, it is our great honor and pleasure to be counted among the founding partners of the First Movers Coalition. Let us salute Secretary John Kerry and the leadership of the World Economic Forum for launching this innovative partnership. This is exactly the kind of “working together”—business and government, together—that the world so needs and that we know is an unbeatable combination. The toughest problems—like decarbonizing hard to decarbonize sectors—wither in the face of formidable partnerships, and we believe, transform them into opportunities”, said Katie McGinty, Vice President and Chief Sustainability and External Relations Officer at Johnson Controls.
The Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE), the International Copper Association (ICA), the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Sustainable Energy for ALL (SEforALL), the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), and the United National Industrial Development Program (UNIDO) have launched the Cornerstone of Rural Electrification Initiative (CORE) to address the immense capacity building and technical assistance needs to support the development of decentralised renewable energy (DRE) systems as a means to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Eric Rondolat, CEO of Signify, said: “Interventions like the switch to renewable energy take time to yield results. Adopting energy-saving technologies can instantly relieve many of the urgent energy challenges the world is facing in electricity and fuel shortages and price hikes. We can act today by accelerating the switch to energy-efficient lighting, by doubling the rate of building renovations per year, and by mobilizing consumers to make their own significant impact in the Race to Zero. Driving energy efficiency improvements will reduce emissions and at the same time save businesses and consumers money, and create jobs.”
Schneider Electric, the global leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, announced on November 4 that they would design and deliver, Energize, a program to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions within the pharmaceutical value chain. Ten major pharmaceutical companies are already program members.
“Today marks ‘Energy Day’ of the 2021 United Nations Conference of Parties (COP26) on climate change, where representatives from around the globe come together to accelerate action towards the mitigation of climate change,” said Susan Uthayakumar, President, Sustainable Business at Schneider Electric. “In support of that mission, we’re honored to launch the Energize program and collaborate with the pharmaceutical industry to drive emissions reductions, ultimately benefitting both people and our planet.”
National Grid will bring voices from around the world to the leading decision makers on climate at COP26, the UN Global Climate Change Conference being held in Glasgow, Scotland in November. The Voice of All initiative gives people in the Northeast and across the US the opportunity to share their aspirations and ideas for a sustainable future.
"As global leaders work through detailed policy issues, we don't want them to lose sight of the perspective and needs of our communities impacted by climate change," said Badar Khan, President of National Grid, US. "This is part of our commitment to leave no one behind and we're proud to bring the people we serve with us to the table. The Voice of All will be a motivational message of hope that also illustrates the seriousness of what is at stake."
