Washington, D.C. – Lisa Jacobson, President of the Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE), offered the following statement in response to the United States’ updated national climate plan:
“Nine years after joining the Paris Agreement, this updated climate goal represents a bold new opportunity to cement America’s competitive leadership by deploying clean, resilient, and innovative technologies at scale.
“The technologies needed to drive significant emissions reductions are commercially available today. By deploying a broad portfolio of clean energy solutions – including energy efficiency, natural gas, renewables, and more – U.S. businesses are investing in communities from the ground up and providing new jobs, cost savings, and cleaner air.
“Key to continued U.S. decarbonization is long-term investment decisions based on policy certainty. As we have seen in recent years, strong policy foundations create strong market signals and catalyze investment. Economic policy certainty has accelerated deployment of American-made clean energy across the country and around the world.
“This is the critical decade for cementing America’s energy dominance and winning the innovation race. This goal is the North Star and should guide public and private sector investment to secure America’s position as a global supplier of affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy solutions.”
