Last week at COP 29, the Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) Council released its Annual Report, which underscores the urgent need to accelerate the deployment of LDES technologies. The Annual Report finds that a strong and growing ecosystem of innovators, corporates, and strategic partners is driving momentum for widespread LDES adoption. Nevertheless, to reach global climate goals, LDES deployment must scale up to 50 times faster than currently projected.
The report also identifies seven LDES enablers that are pivotal to scaling LDES, from raising awareness and setting targets to providing long-term revenue stability and improving grid integration. These steps will empower countries to meet their sustainability commitments and accelerate the global transition to net zero.
