Tidal Shifts: Clean Energy Investment State of Play

The Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) and CleanCapital, in partnership with White & Case, hosted an invite-only executive roundtable discussion on the long-term state of play in clean energy amid a short-term shifting political landscape in the United States.

Global investment in the energy transition hit a record high of $2.1 trillion in 2024, climbing 11% from the previous year. Last year, renewable energy investment in the U.S. was over $330 billion, but still only half that of China’s investment. As policy winds continue to shift, it falls to investors and developers to set the pace for long-term investment in America’s energy future.

While investments in renewables, power grids, and supply chains are now an undeniable economic driver, the projected massive increase in energy demand from electrification, including artificial intelligence, data centers, and transportation electrification, means transition finance is poised to capture strong investment opportunities and bolster diversified portfolios.

This roundtable discussion with leading experts in finance and clean energy explored the current state of play for investors, lenders, and corporations to influence the future of the clean energy transition.
