Dubai, UAE – Lisa Jacobson, President of the Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE), offered the following statement in response to the international pledge to double the global rate of energy efficiency and triple the world’s renewable energy capacity by 2030, agreed upon today at COP 28 by 118 governments:
“Today’s pledge is a milestone to be celebrated. It signals that the global community is united in its goal to advance the clean energy transition – and is aware of the enormous level of deployment needed to do so quickly. To reach this goal, the business community has an essential role to play in directing investment and deploying technologies – in all sectors and all geographies. BCSE urges COP negotiators to incorporate this pledge into the written COP outcomes and cement this global commitment to reducing emissions, building resilience, and growing economies.”
Jacobson also offered the following statement in response to the announcement of the United States’ $3 billion pledge to the Green Climate Fund:
“Today’s contribution by the United States to the Green Climate Fund reflects our country’s commitment to be a global partner and provider of climate finance. This public investment will support the efforts of developing nations as they build more climate resilient and low-carbon economies. U.S. leadership opens doors for American companies to provide the clean energy and energy efficiency solutions needed to advance the energy transition around the world.”
