WHAT INDUSTRY EXECUTIVES ARE SAYING
About the 2023 Sustainable Energy in America Factbook and Clean Energy’s Progress
March 2, 2023 – The Business Council for Sustainable Energy and BloombergNEF recently released the eleventh edition of the Sustainable Energy in America Factbook. It is available to download for free at bcse.org/factbook.
The Factbook provides a comprehensive look at the progress of clean energy – energy efficiency, natural gas, and renewable energy – in the United States, providing both year-on-year and decade-long statistics.
Gregg Mast, Executive Director, Clean Energy Economy Minnesota
“The Factbook provides essential information that our policymakers and business leaders rely on to make data-driven decisions to lead the country towards a clean energy future. This data is used in conversations that shape smart energy policy and tell the success story of the clean energy transition. Our organization and its energy efficiency and clean energy businesses rely on this data to illustrate how clean energy is the country’s path to reliable, affordable, homegrown energy.”
Tequila Smith, Executive Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer, Covanta
“This year’s Factbook provides decision-makers the valuable data they need to formulate public policy. We have entered a new era with the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act and state-level carbon neutrality targets, but the steps taken to implement that legislation are critical to whether we achieve our sustainability objectives. That’s where the Factbook is so valuable. Thoughtful policy requires sound data, and this report provides that.”
Amy Farrell, Senior Vice President of Government and Public Affairs, CRES Forum
“CRES Forum is proud to sponsor the release of the 2023 Sustainable Energy in America Factbook. As the Factbook confirms, the United States clean energy sector is now hardwired into the U.S. economy, and deployment of solutions to address industrial emissions, such as carbon capture and hydrogen deployment, are poised to increase America’s competitive advantage and reduce global emissions. To fully realize the economic and environmental opportunity at hand, we must remove regulatory and permitting barriers to accessing these resources and building the infrastructure needed to support the projected energy build out.”
Mark Lessans, Director of Regulatory and Environmental Affairs, Johnson Controls
“This year’s Factbook demonstrates that industrial digitalization is on the rise, and as a critical enabler for decarbonization, we know the built environment is equally as ripe for digitalization. As we expand our digital solutions to provide smart, healthy, and sustainable building outcomes for our customers, the Factbook serves as an important proof point of how far we’ve come and how much momentum we have in pursuit of net zero.”
Ben Ratner, Executive Director, Sustainability, JPMorgan Chase & Co.
“We have a significant opportunity to finance the low carbon transition while enhancing energy security. This year’s Factbook illuminates trends that will only accelerate with smart implementation of recent laws like the Inflation Reduction Act.”
Justin Koscher, President, Polyisocyanurate Insulation Manufacturers Association
“The Factbook continues to document the critical importance of the clean energy economy to U.S. businesses and consumers. As an industry built on energy savings, PIMA utilizes the data to inform and remind policy and decisionmakers that energy efficiency investments, especially within the built environment, are essential to creating a cleaner, more competitive U.S. economy.”
Jeannie Salo, Vice President of Government Affairs, Schneider Electric
“The path to America’s clean energy future is through electrification and digitization. At Schneider Electric, we welcome the Sustainable Energy in America Factbook as it shines a light on ways that the Inflation Reduction Act is enabling game-changing investments in the clean energy transition. As one of the world’s most sustainable companies, we are committed to driving electrification coupled with digitization to make the places in which we live and work more efficient, safer, and healthier for both people and the planet.”
Lisa Larroque Alexander, Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Chief Sustainability Officer, Sempra
“The Factbook is an invaluable resource for industry and policymakers alike, providing a look at the United States’ record-breaking $141 billion investment into modernizing our country’s energy systems. Sempra is mission-focused on investing in the infrastructure needed to deliver cleaner energy. We applaud the progress our industry made in 2022 as shown by the Factbook data.”
Scott Tew, Vice President, Sustainability & Managing Director, Center for Energy Efficiency & Sustainability, Trane Technologies
“The Factbook is packed with the latest climate and energy megatrends in the U.S. and is an important tool to educate government officials and industry alike on the opportunities for each sector to make a positive impact in the transition to a decarbonized economy. Highlighting the evolving shift in consumer behavior and supportive climate and energy policy, it tells the story of successful efforts and future needs as businesses like ours work together to advance the use of low-carbon fuels, increased energy efficiency, and growth in renewable energy.”
Melissa Adams, Chief Corporate Social Responsibility Officer, WGL
“Washington Gas is proud to again sponsor the Sustainable Energy in America Factbook, a concise compendium of “need-to-know energy data” that highlights the essential role that natural gas and gas infrastructure play in advancing a secure, affordable, reliable, and resilient clean energy transition. The Factbook is an essential tool for data-driven decision-making.”
