Today, BCSE celebrates Earth Day – and its 2025 theme of “Our Power, Our Planet” couldn’t be more fitting. We are proud of the diverse portfolio of energy solutions – including those in the energy efficiency, renewable energy, and natural gas sectors – that keep the lights on and keep costs down, while also improving air quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
On Earth Day and every day, BCSE remains committed to connecting with communities and policymakers to advocate for a broad portfolio of solutions to build a more sustainable, low-carbon economy.
BCSE is advancing a secure, reliable, and sustainable energy portfolio this year by:
1. Meeting Increasing Energy Demand With American Sustainable Energy Technologies
Driven by growth in AI and data centers, U.S. energy demand is expected to surge by 35-50% between 2024 and 2040. In support of this race, energy providers are scaling up production, seeking to meet this moment of unprecedented energy demand.
BCSE is working with our members and policymakers on strategies to build a competitive clean energy America amid demand growth. In order to connect projects to the grid at a pace that matches the rate of economic growth in the United States, business leaders must work hand-in-hand with policymakers on crucial regulatory and policy innovations.
2. Sharing the Facts on Energy Productivity, Clean Energy Deployment, and Emissions Reductions
In 2024, U.S. power generation reached its highest volume in two decades, driven by growth in renewable energy technologies and by stable natural gas generation capacity. These energy growth sectors face favorable market conditions as the United States eyes rising energy demand.
That’s the key takeaway from the 2025 Sustainable Energy in America Factbook. Produced annually by BCSE and BloombergNEF, the Factbook tracks energy market and policy trends in the United States, examining how energy sectors performed in 2024 and over the past decade.
3. Maintaining Federal Support for Energy Tax Credits
As Congress considers tax reform, it is important to protect long term business certainty in the tax code for energy tax credits that have enjoyed decades of bipartisan support, spurred job creation, bolstered energy security, and boosted domestic manufacturing. Since August 2022, these energy tax credits have spurred:
- 406,007 new energy jobs across 48 states and Puerto Rico.
- 260+ new manufacturing facilities.
- $133 billion invested in private sector solar, wind, storage, clean vehicle, and grid/electrification projects.
According to a new report by Energy Innovation, repealing federal energy tax credits would put nearly 790,000 jobs at risk and increase annual energy bills for U.S. households by more than $6 billion in 2030 and more than $9 billion higher in 2035.
BCSE is a leading voice calling on Congress to protect these key tax incentives and ensure business certainty and affordable energy into the future.
4. Leading the Global Conversation on Energy Efficiency
Our current energy system is highly inefficient — with almost two-thirds of all energy (worth $4.5 trillion) wasted every year. Commercially available solutions for the built environment, industry, transportation, and data centers reduce overall energy demand while meeting increasing service needs, improving the energy infrastructure reliability, and relieving stress on utilities.
At the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, BCSE joined with Mission Efficiency to call on business leaders to share the solution – and invest in technologies that save energy AND money.
