June 15, 2023

Washington, D.C. – The Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) welcomes William Groshek as the 2023 Jan Schori Summer Fellow.

Will is a graduate student in the first cohort of Georgetown University’s new M.S. in Environment and Sustainability Management program. Through his academic program, Will has conducted research with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy on the use of community benefits agreements as potential social and financial mechanisms to increase the adoption of renewable energy projects.

“Will’s experience in renewable energy research and climate policy advocacy will contribute to BCSE’s ability to push for federal permitting reform and other important clean energy policy advancements this summer,” said BCSE President Lisa Jacobson. “We are thrilled to welcome him to the BCSE team and develop his skills in analysis and practical experience in public policy advocacy.”

The Fellowship was established in 2008 to honor Jan Schori upon her retirement as General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), the nation’s sixth largest publicly owned electric utility. Ms. Schori also served as the chair of BCSE’s Board of Directors. During her 14-year tenure as CEO, the utility earned a strong reputation for its renewable energy and energy efficiency programs as well as the national number one ranking in commercial customer satisfaction by JD Power & Associates. Prior to serving as CEO, Ms. Schori spent 15 years on the legal staff at SMUD, the last five as general counsel.
