Washington, D.C. – In response to President Biden’s State of the Union address, BCSE President Lisa Jacobson offered the following statement:
“President Biden highlighted the historic clean energy and energy efficiency incentives of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) as a means to boost job growth and help Americans save money on energy – while reducing carbon pollution and enhancing community resilience. As the legislation moves into the implementation phase, BCSE is pleased to see the Administration’s continued support for advancing the energy transition and investing in American energy sources.
“Nevertheless, more is needed to ‘finish the job,’ as President Biden described. We risk losing the full impact of the clean energy investments included in the IRA and bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) without reforms to federal permitting and siting processes. BCSE urges policymakers to come together on common-sense, bipartisan permitting reform to speed up clean energy deployment and improve access to resilient and affordable energy systems.
“BCSE looks forward to working with the Biden Administration and Congress to enact policies driving the energy transition and to ensure IRA and IIJA funds are distributed efficiently and equitably.”
