BCSE Statement in Response to U.S. Withdrawal from the Paris Agreement
January 21, 2025

Washington, D.C. – Lisa Jacobson, President of the Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE), offered the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s Executive Order to withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement:

“Today, the global energy market is experiencing skyrocketing demand growth and an increasing number of extreme weather events that are threatening the stability of our infrastructure and economies. To meet this challenge, businesses in the BCSE coalition are deploying the technologies and energy solutions that will assist countries in reducing demand and emissions, increasing resilience, and improving energy security.

“Continued leadership and support by the United States in international climate and energy multilateral arenas and programs enhances the status of American companies in this highly competitive global market. It is in the United States’ best interest to continue to be engaged in the international dialogue on energy, climate change, and sustainability action.

“As an accredited observer of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and its meetings for more than 30 years, BCSE has led business delegations to each of the three Earth Summits and nearly all the UNFCCC’s annual COPs and intersessional meetings. BCSE supports implementation of the Paris Agreement and will continue to provide business perspectives to the UNFCCC process at COP 30 and beyond.”
