BCSE Statement on Submission to SEC on Enhancement and Standardization of Climate-Related Disclosures for Investors

Washington, D.C. – The Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) submitted comments today to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in response to the enhancement and standardization of climate-related disclosures for investors.

In the submission, BCSE expressed its support of the SEC’s focus on environmental, social and governance (ESG) and climate-related disclosures, as well as for the SEC’s utilization of existing reporting frameworks.

BCSE President Lisa Jacobson commented further:

“The BCSE believes that the best approach forward on climate-related reporting is one that is created in consultation with the private sector, built on established systems, and able to evolve in a rapidly changing field.

“The SEC’s focus in the areas of ESG and climate-related disclosures can improve data collection and dissemination of information in a standardized way that will aid investors in making decisions. ESG, and specifically climate-related disclosures, are best determined in collaboration between registrants and investors. They also should be flexible, sector-specific, and principles-based.”
