BCSE Statement on Markup of Bipartisan Permitting Reform Bill
August 1, 2024

Washington, D.C. – Lisa Jacobson, President of the Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE), offered the following statement in response to the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee voting to advance the bipartisan Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024:

“The progress of this bipartisan legislation to the Senate floor – with a strong vote in favor from committee members – marks an important milestone. BCSE has long advocated for federal legislation to reform the permitting and siting processes that currently leave projects stranded in development for years on end. Reforms are needed to efficiently deploy the clean energy infrastructure that powers American life and brings communities well-paying jobs, economic growth, and reliable energy.

“BCSE commends Senators Joe Manchin (I-WV) and John Barrasso (R-WY) for moving this bill forward expeditiously. We look forward to working with Congress as it continues to advance the legislation, including further consideration of issues discussed during the markup, such as long overdue hydropower permitting reform.”
