BCSE Statement on EPA’s Final GHG Standards and Guidelines for Fossil Fuel-Fired Power Plants
April 25, 2024

Washington, D.C. – Lisa Jacobson, President of the Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE), offered the following statement in response to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s final Greenhouse Gas Standards and Guidelines for Fossil Fuel-Fired Power Plants:

“The release of the EPA’s final greenhouse gas standards is an important milestone and will strengthen the market signals to decarbonize the U.S. economy. Sharp declines in U.S. power sector emissions over the past decade – driven by the BCSE portfolio of energy efficiency, natural gas, and renewable energy technologies – have demonstrated that there are many cost-effective solutions readily available to reduce carbon pollution.

“BCSE has long supported a federal, economy-wide approach to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. While BCSE urges federal legislative action to ensure durable policy for the long-term, it believes that EPA has an obligation to respond to sound science and court mandates. The BCSE coalition looks forward to reviewing the finalized rule in more detail and working with EPA and states on its implementation.”

BCSE previously submitted comments on EPA’s proposed rule in August 2023.
