BCSE Statement on Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024
July 23, 2024

Washington, D.C. – Lisa Jacobson, President of the Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE), offered the following statement in response to the release of the bipartisan Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024:

“Current federal regulations and review processes for permitting and siting electric and natural gas infrastructure follow a lengthy schedule that leaves projects stranded in development for far too long. For example, over 1,100GW of projects were still undergoing interconnection studies in the seven U.S. independent system operators as of January 2024, according to the 2024 Sustainable Energy in America Factbook.

“We must instead act with urgency. Speeding up federal permitting and siting processes will boost our nation’s energy security by deploying modern, clean, and secure American energy resources – and bring new jobs and economic benefits to local communities.

“BCSE commends Senators Joe Manchin (I-WV) and John Barrasso (R-WY) for introducing bipartisan legislation on this critical issue. We look forward to reviewing this proposal and continuing to work with Congress to advance the clean energy transition in the United States.”
