Advancing Industry Cooperation at COP 29 to Achieve Energy Transition Goals
November 14, 2024

BCSE hosted a private roundtable on November 14 that brought together industry voices, partners, and governments to identify market and policy opportunities that will enable them to work together across industry sectors and make tangible progress toward realizing the energy transition goals articulated in paragraph 28 of the COP 28 Global Stock Take outcome. A new global goal on grids and energy storage under negotiation at COP 29 was also discussed.

The international community is not on track to achieve the goals of doubling energy efficiency and tripling renewable energy by 2030. The next round of updated nationally-determined contributions (NDCs) present an important opportunity for industry to work with governments to advance progress toward all of these goals – including those in transport, such as the Global Drive to Zero.

Making the business case for clean energy investment remains an important opportunity, and building the policy frameworks that enable business investment, innovation, and deployment is key. Kenya, a key partner of Mission Efficiency and Sustainable Energy for All, spoke to its commitment to energy efficiency and investments across the power, industry, and buildings sectors.

Moving forward, investment in communications is paramount to help bridge the gap between the intergovernmental action at COP – including national climate plans – and the markets and communities with which companies and coalitions are working to advance the energy transition.
