2026 Is the Year of Energy Abundance
January 16, 2026

By Lisa Jacobson, President, BCSE

We’re only a few weeks into 2026, and the energy industry is already hard at work addressing today’s pressing challenges. In case you missed it:

  • Home electricity costs have increased 13% since January 2025.
  • ICF predicts U.S. electricity demand will grow 25% by 2030.
  • Homes and businesses continue to face extreme weather and conditions that strain our aging energy system. In 2025, the United States experienced 23 billion-dollar weather disasters, costing a total of $115 billion in damages.

America needs affordable, reliable energy now – and the Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) coalition represents the broad portfolio of energy technologies that are ready to hit the ground running.

That’s why this year, BCSE is launching a new initiative under the banner of the American Energy Abundance Alliance. This initiative is rallied around a vision of America’s energy prosperity. Our alliance aims to unleash U.S. energy resources to lower costs, increase national security, boost economic competitiveness, and protect the environment – all at the same time.

Driving American Abundance With a Broad Portfolio of Energy Solutions

Currently, our industries face barriers to achieving this goal. We face long and outdated permitting and siting timelines that stop projects in their tracks. We face supply chain constraints and a lack of trained workers.

But this year, we have a bold opportunity to drive policy action that will make common-sense reforms and unlock new energy resources for all Americans. Over the next decade, solutions in the energy efficiency, renewable energy, natural gas, energy storage, power grid and sustainable fuels sectors will continue to be the energy resources available to meet growing energy demand through demand- and supply-side energy technologies.

It is critical that policymakers at all levels of government support regulatory reforms, technical assistance to states and localities, and innovative RDD&D. This is vital to ensure that the U.S. retains its competitive edge in energy technologies, products, and services.

Don’t Miss Out: Join Us in Meeting the Moment

What does this initiative entail? Throughout 2026, the American Energy Abundance Alliance will be hosting roundtable events across the country. These discussions will connect industry leaders with federal and state policymakers to share strategies for expanding markets for near-term demand- and supply-side solutions.

  • Do you have ideas about how to deploy technologies faster?
  • Do you want to be in the room for meetings with decisionmakers in Washington, DC and states around the country?

Don’t miss out on being part of America’s energy expansion.
