State of the Union Address Confirms Commitment to Clean Energy Future

Statement from Lisa Jacobson, BCSE President

“President Biden’s address to the joint houses of Congress reinforced his commitment to a rapid and affordable clean energy transition in the United States, which will create millions of good-paying jobs. The energy efficiency, natural gas and renewable energy industries already support over three million families across the country and have been among the fastest-growing jobs in past years.

“Clean energy careers are more than good paychecks. Our workforce supports critical services for every person in America. This work is the backbone of American industry. A modern energy system and a thriving clean energy industry, benefiting from the full portfolio of readily-available clean energy technologies, will help maintain American international competitiveness in the coming years.

“In his first 100 days, Mr. Biden has released a drumbeat of plans and commitments in support of clean energy – including funding for electric grid investments and a new U.S. nationally-determined contribution under the Paris Agreement in addition to the clean energy provisions in the American Jobs Plan. Together, these policy steps will help build an energy future for the United States that is secure, reliable, affordable and sustainable. The BCSE calls on Congress and President Biden to find bipartisan way forward to advance legislation that secures the clean energy and climate-friendly future that the American public already supports.”
