Solar Turbines Receives Environmental Leadership Recognition from the Cool Planet Project

Yahoo! Finance reported that BCSE member Solar Turbines received recognition as an environmental leader under the Cool Planet Project sponsored by The Climate Registry and fellow BCSE member San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E).  The Cool Planet Project is SDG&E's energy efficiency and climate mitigation program.

Solar Turbines earned the award for its work to retrofit SDG&E’s San Diego facilities to save over 700,000 kWh annually.  The savings are accomplished with new air compressors, efficient motors and lighting upgrades equivalent to 500 MT of avoided carbon emissions or 100 passenger cars from the road.

Solar Turbines' other environmental efforts include voluntarily tracking its own performance metrics related to energy use, waste recycling, water usage, and greenhouse gas emissions; staying on track to meet its reduction targets, including a 2020 ZERO waste-to-landfill goal; and a fuel reduction project centered on streamlining production testing of the company’s turbine engines.
