Professionals and Government Officials Discovering the Benefits of Daylighting
March 2007 - On March 14, 2007 SolaDesign organized a presentation coordinated by New Jersey’s Governor’s office and the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) to learn about the energy savings and human performance benefits of daylighting. Neall Digert, Ph.D., MIES, a nationally recognized expert in daylighting science and engineering brought the audience through the development of today’s optical daylighting systems which often turn artificial lighting – and their heat gain – off during peak demand periods. Subsequently, the NJBPU is reviewing pilot projects for evaluation and Princeton University has installed optical daylighting and will conducting study for further review.
SolaDesign LLC has been leading the way in the Northeast in educating architects, engineers, and public officials about the substantial energy savings and greenhouse gas emissions reduction achieved by implementing optical daylight systems. Over 500 architects and engineers have received American Institute of Architecture approved training outlining 30 – 50 percent decrease in total energy use immediately by using full spectrum sunlight as the primary lighting source in most commercial applications, new construction or retrofit. With the overwhelming professional response being, “I didn’t realize daylighting can be 99.7 percent efficient and had come this far,” the list for future professional trainings is growing dramatically.
