Passage of Tax Compromise a Major Boost for American Clean Energy
Washington, DC —The Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) released the following statement from BCSE President Lisa Jacobson in reaction to the enactment of the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010:
“The BCSE praises President Obama and Congressional leaders from both parties for their ability to compromise and pass this crucial piece of legislation. The extension of the 1603 Treasury Grant Program for renewable energy projects will help drive growth in America’s renewable energy industries in 2011, revitalizing our nation’s manufacturing base, strengthening our energy infrastructure, and building an industry that will power economic growth in the 21st century.
“Beyond the 1603 program, we hope the spirit of cooperation, the sense of urgency, and the earnestness of the debate that made this compromise possible will carry forward into 2011. The 112th Congress must act to unleash private capital investments in energy innovation, technology-deployment, and infrastructure improvement. It can only do so if we engage in a serious, honest debate.
“President Obama’s signing of the tax package today means good things for clean energy development in 2011 and, hopefully, good things for what can happen in the 112th Congress.”
