Iberdrola Renewables Presents ABPP Wildlife Program Awards

BCSE member Iberdrola Renewables presented its first wildlife program awards to mark the achievements of field technicians participating in the company’s Avian and Bat Protection Policy (ABPP), a pioneering, industry-first program.

Iberdrola Renewables rolled out new protocols and procedures for implementing the latest phase of its ABPP at the beginning of 2011.  In an innovative approach to wildlife monitoring and reporting, onsite technicians now conduct ongoing bird and bat surveys.  Their effort to collect data on how wildlife interacts with wind farms includes walking inspections around turbines.

The 2011 awards for wind plant achievement go to Casselman in Pennsylvania and Peñascal in Texas respectively.  A technician at the Hardscrabble Wind Power Project in New York, Stewart Banks, was honored for individual achievement.

Additional information can be found in Iberdrola’s press release.
