Clean Energy Industries Support US Green Climate Fund Pledge
Washington, DC – The Business Council for Sustainable Energy’s President Lisa Jacobson issued the following statement on the United States’ pledge to the Green Climate Fund.
“The Business Council for Sustainable Energy commends the United States for its significant pledge of $3 billion to the Green Climate Fund (GCF), and for joining other nations to extend financial support to developing countries to help them adopt a low-carbon development pathway.
The US has a responsibility to lead in this global fight against climate change, and this pledge, along with the historic bilateral agreement reached with China, demonstrates the depth of this commitment by the Obama Administration.
The Green Climate Fund is a new and independent institution that is built upon the lessons learned from the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) that were established in 2008 under President George W. Bush. BCSE serves as a private sector observer to the CIF and supports the GCF’s focus on mitigation and adaptation projects and its incorporation of a Private Sector Facility to better leverage private sector investment.
With this inaugural pledge to the GCF, the US is continuing its ongoing support of international climate finance and demonstrating its commitment to sustainable development. US firms have benefitted from the climate finance and the GCF will enable American businesses to provide US technology and innovation to developing countries.”
