Clean Energy Industries Pleased to See Efficiency Legislation Pass Senate
Washington, DC — The Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) President Lisa Jacobson issued the following statement regarding Senate Passage early this morning of S.535, the Energy Efficiency Improvement Act, which was introduced by Senators Rob Portman (R-OH) and Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH). The legislation, which passed the Senate early this morning, would promote energy efficiency in federal and commercial buildings and encourage tenants and landlords to work together to reduce their energy use.
“The Council is pleased that the Senate has unanimously passed elements of the long-sought energy efficiency legislation from Senators Portman and Shaheen. And it is our hope that the House will adopt the Senate bill as soon as it returns to Washington in mid-April, particularly since the House passed similar legislation on a wide bipartisan basis last year.
“According to the 2015 edition of the Sustainable Energy in America Factbook, the U.S. economy is becoming more energy efficient due in large part to improvements in buildings and vehicles. This trend combined with other changes in the energy sector are making the U.S. one of the most attractive markets in the world for companies whose operations entail significant energy-related costs.
“While targeted on specific areas, this legislation will help move the United States toward greater energy efficiency and promote economic growth. The Council applauds Senators Portman and Shaheen for their tireless efforts.”
