BCSE Welcomes Introduction of the Clean Energy
Standard Act of 2012

WASHINGTON, DC-The Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) issued the following statement from BCSE President Lisa Jacobson in reaction to Senator Bingaman's introduction today of the Clean Energy Standard Act of 2012:

"The BCSE commends Senator Bingaman for his leadership in driving forward the conversation on clean energy policy. We look forward to reviewing the legislation he unveiled today and thank him specifically for taking comments from all stakeholders as part of the Clean Energy Standard (CES) White Paper process.

"An appropriately structured CES can be a powerful clean energy deployment mechanism and offers the opportunity to establish a long-term, predictable market signal for clean energy investment.  A national clean energy policy, such as a CES, will provide certainty for investors and is essential to spur domestic manufacturing and the creation of new US manufacturing jobs.

"Our industries strongly support the establishment of a sustainable policy framework that provides clarity on market demand and certainty to investors in clean energy sectors. There are numerous commercially-available technologies that are ready to meet our nation's energy, economic, and environmental objectives. A CES can be a potent tool to unlock private sector investment, create jobs, and scale up clean energy deployment.

"Commercially available clean energy technologies and resources such as energy efficiency, renewable energy, and natural gas are essential pillars of our energy future. We thank Senator Bingaman for his leadership and vision in advancing policies that will help us develop and deploy the sustainable energy technologies and resources we need to grow our economy."
