BCSE Statement on Van Hollen Climate Legislation

Washington, DC - Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) President Lisa Jacobson, issued the following statement regarding the Healthy Climate and Family Security Act of 2015, which was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives this week by Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD).

“BCSE has worked with Congressman Van Hollen in his role as Co-Chair of the House Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Caucus. The Council’s coalition of clean energy businesses from the energy efficiency, natural gas and renewable energy sectors values Congressman Van Hollen’s leadership in developing a proposal that aims to reduce carbon emissions while supporting economic growth.”

According to the 2015 edition of the BCSE-Bloomberg New Energy Finance Sustainable Energy in America Factbook, clean energy sources, including renewables, energy efficiency and natural gas, are helping to grow the economy while reducing U.S. greenhouse gas emissions. Energy productivity has increased 11% since 2007 and 93% of new power capacity built in the United States since they year 2000 has come from natural gas and renewable energy. This increased use of clean energy resources has resulted in a 9% drop is carbon emissions from the energy sector since 2007.
