BCSE Statement on Public and Private Sector Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Announcements
Clean Energy Industries Praise Focus on Readily-Available Technologies to Create Jobs and Reduce Emissions
Washington, DC — The Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) released the following statement from BCSE President Lisa Jacobson regarding the announcement of private sector and public sector actions today to expand U.S. deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency.
"The Business Council for Sustainable Energy applauds President Obama and the private sector and public sector leaders that made commitments today to increase their energy productivity and renewable energy use. These commitments make sense for the bottom line, while creating jobs and helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions."
"The announcement includes important executive actions in line with President Obama's Climate Action plan in the areas of solar energy, residential and commercial energy efficiency and workforce training.
"In addition, today's announcement renewed the commitment by the Obama Administration to expand its investments to improve the energy efficiency of federal buildings. The President called for $2 billion in new investment in energy efficiency upgrades in federal buildings over the next three years. Key to meeting this goal is the use of Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPCs) that generate long-term savings to pay for the up-front costs of the upgrades at no net costs to taxpayers.
"As highlighted in the 2014 edition of the Sustainable Energy in America Factbook, clean energy technologies in the energy efficiency, renewable energy and natural gas sectors are playing a larger role in the nation's energy production, distribution and use. As we look forward, the diverse portfolio of clean energy options can meet the countries energy needs in an affordable and reliable manner, while creating jobs and lowering emissions."
