BCSE Statement on Passage of House Energy Bill
Washington, DC – Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) President Lisa Jacobson made the following statement regarding House passage of HR 4447, the Clean Economy Jobs and Innovation Act, and the possibility of energy legislation passing Congress this session.
“BCSE is pleased to see the House of Representatives take action to pass the Clean Economy Jobs and Innovation Act. This progress adds urgency for the U.S. Senate to pass its strong package of energy legislation, the American Energy Innovation Act. The Council hopes that both energy bills can move forward to a productive negotiation between the houses of Congress.
“The Clean Economy Jobs and Innovation Act comes in the wake of significant national and international attention on clean energy and climate change. Today is the final day of National Clean Energy Week, which more than 30 states including Washington D.C. recognized, and near the end of Climate Week NYC, the largest international climate summit taking place in 2020. The nation and the world look to the Congress for leadership on clean energy.
“Enacting energy legislation this Congress would be a foundational first step in addressing our energy, economic recovery, and climate challenges. The Clean Economy Jobs and Innovation Act has important provisions for research and development and the long-term growth of the clean energy industries, but more can and should be done as the economy recovers from the business conditions resulting from COVID-19.”
