Statement by BCSE on 2012 Election Results

Washington, DC -- The Business Council for Sustainable Energy released the following statement from Council President Lisa Jacobson in response to the U.S. 2012 Presidential and General Election results.

"BCSE congratulates President Barack Obama on winning the 2012 Presidential election and looks forward to working with the his Administration and Congress to address the urgent budget, tax and energy policy issues impacting Americans.

"Energy issues were high on the election agenda and provided a platform for a robust conversation on the choices that will need to be made to ensure that the United States has a reliable, affordable, clean and secure energy system to power the economy.

"Commercially-available clean energy technologies and resources from the energy efficiency, natural gas and renewable energy industries are the growth sectors of the U.S. energy economy and contribute significantly to the U.S. economic recovery, while supporting hundreds of thousands of domestic jobs.

"The Administration and Congress have immediate business before them to reach an agreement on a set of expiring and expired clean energy tax extenders, as well as future funding for many critical federal agencies that support business growth and investment in the energy sector.

"The tax code is currently one of the strongest drivers for energy investment in the country. Tax policy has been effective in encouraging private sector investment, reducing costs to consumers and industry, spurring technological innovation and enhancing the viability and deployment of a portfolio of clean energy options.

"The Business Council for Sustainable Energy offers twenty years of business experience on energy and tax policy and looks forward to working with the Obama Administration and Congress to provide practical and cost-effective solutions to meet the nation's energy needs."
