BCSE Statement in Response to Senate Confirmation of EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy

Washington, DC -- The Business Council for Sustainable Energy released the following statement from Council President Lisa Jacobson in response to the confirmation by the U.S. Senate of Ms. Gina McCarthy as Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator.

"The members of the Business Council for Sustainable Energy congratulate Ms. McCarthy on her confirmation as EPA Administrator.  Council members have had the opportunity to work with Ms. McCarthy in her position as Assistant Administrator of EPA's Office of Air and Radiation and in her role as Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection.

"With tens of billions of dollars expected in U.S. energy investment over the next decade, it is essential that the leader of EPA adopts a holistic view of the nation's energy and environmental challenges and has a track record of working constructively with the private sector.  Ms. McCarthy has both of these attributes and will lead EPA at a critical time in the development and implementation of national air quality and greenhouse gas policy.

"Noting the need for integrated energy and environmental policies, BCSE members look forward to working with EPA to ensure clean, reliable and affordable energy production, distribution and use. This can be achieved by greater utilization of a diverse set of domestic, readily available clean energy resources and technologies in the energy efficiency, natural gas and renewable energy sectors."
