BCSE Statement in Response to Federal Appeals Court Ruling on EPA's Authority to Regulate Greenhouse Gases under the Clean Air Act
Washington, DC -- The Business Council for Sustainable Energy released the following statement from Council President Lisa Jacobson in response to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit decision on the Environmental Protection Agency's authority to regulate greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act.
"BCSE supports the science underpinning the greenhouse gas endangerment finding and EPA's continued use of the Clean Air Act to regulate greenhouse gas emissions.
"We believe the optimal policy for regulating greenhouse gas emissions is for Congress to enact comprehensive market-based legislation that allows for flexibility and cost-effective emissions reductions, including carbon offsets.
"The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit decision this week to uphold EPA's authority to regulate greenhouse gases is a significant development.
"Energy efficiency, renewable energy, and natural gas will be able to help our nation reduce greenhouse gas emissions, grow the economy, create jobs and strengthen our energy system -- in addition to being cost-effective compliance options. Congress should provide regulatory certainty on emissions policy to guide long-term energy resource and infrastructure investments."
