Washington, DC — The Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE)—a coalition of leading companies and associations from America’s energy efficiency, natural gas, and renewable energy industries—praises President Barack Obama for his call to pass comprehensive energy and climate change legislation in his State of the Union Address. This announcement creates new momentum to enact a comprehensive bill in the 111th Congress. Such a bill is urgently needed this year to create high quality American jobs, help secure our nation’s energy future, and boost domestic manufacturing.
In her letter to the President prior to the State of the Union, BCSE President Lisa Jacobson commended President Obama for his leadership and his Administration’s accomplishments in advancing American clean energy industries through investments under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). “The energy efficiency and clean energy investments begun in 2009 by the ARRA will bear fruit this year and long into the future. The ARRA has created opportunities and incentives for productive investments with positive economic payoffs,” wrote Jacobson.
Clean energy technologies stand ready to create more American jobs, promote our nation’s energy independence, and, most importantly, assert America’s global leadership in the 21st century clean energy industries. “We praise the President for communicating so strongly to the American people in the State of the Union address his commitment to passing comprehensive climate and energy legislation this year. We look forward to working with his Administration and Congress to find the right policies to accomplish our shared goals of prosperity and security,” Jacobson concluded.
