BCSE Marks Earth Day by Celebrating its 20th Year as a Clean Energy Business Organization
Ahead of Earth Day in its 20th anniversary year, the Council is planning events and milestones that will further cement its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development. For the Council, 2012 will be a year of reflection, assessment, and celebration of the accomplishments achieved over the past twenty years and also a chance to engage in a frank assessment of the challenges that exist today to further expand the use of renewable energy, natural gas, and energy efficiency.
"The Council's founders could see that the world's energy future would be based on a diverse and growing clean energy portfolio. Clean energy offers predictable and high-quality options to customers concerned about energy reliability, energy security, and environmental protection," noted George Williams, BCSE Board of Directors Chairman and Director of Government Relations for Sempra Energy.
In recognition of the BCSE 20 year anniversary, the Council is planning a series of activities aimed at developing a forward-looking vision to present to policymakers in early 2013. This analysis of the renewable energy, natural gas, and energy efficiency sectors will include the re-launch of the Council’s "State of the Industry Series" on Capitol Hill. The series will begin on May 9 with an initial briefing on clean energy industry trends.
The Council will also be continuing its work to improve the sustainability of its operations, including releasing its second annual greenhouse gas emissions report and offsetting of its internal operations and staff travel.
"In celebrating Earth Day 2012, the Council looks back at 20 years of accomplishment and looks ahead to its continued work to enact policies that make clean energy options available and affordable worldwide," remarked Lisa Jacobson, BCSE President.
