BCSE Applauds Passage of the
American Energy Manufacturing Technical Corrections Act

Washington, DC -- The Business Council for Sustainable Energy released the following statement from Council President Lisa Jacobson in response to Senate passage yesterday of the American Energy Manufacturing Technical Corrections Act, H.R. 6582.

"Passage of the American Energy Manufacturing Technical Corrections Act by the Senate last night demonstrates that energy efficiency continues to have bipartisan support and can serve as a break-through issue in Congress.

"Commercially-available clean energy technologies and resources from the energy efficiency, natural gas and renewable energy industries are the growth sectors of the U.S. energy economy and contribute significantly to the U.S. economic recovery while supporting hundreds of thousands of domestic jobs.

"The American Energy Manufacturing Technical Corrections Act supports U.S. competitiveness and job creation while cutting energy waste.  The legislation supports industrial energy efficiency and will ensure continued improvement in the efficiency of appliances.

"Enactment of H.R. 6582 shows that Congress can come to agreement on energy policy and will create momentum for future action on legislation in the 113th Congress.

"BCSE congratulates congressional leaders including Senator Jeff Bingaman (D-NM), Senator Rob Portman (R-OH), Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Congressman Fred Upton (R-MI) and Congressman Ed Whitfield (R-KY) for keeping the focus on energy efficiency legislation this session.  BCSE looks forward to President Obama signing H.R. 6582 into law and the energy savings and economic benefits it will yield."
